CX(s) Applied: B2.5
Date: 05/08/2014
Location(s): South Carolina
Offices(s): Savannah River Operations Office
A portable ventilation system is currently being utilized in Tank 12. High levels of mercury have been detected in the exhaust gas from the tank. Workers will be conducting tank top field operations to remove the slurry pumps from Tank 12 Risers 1, 3, and 5. Industrial hygiene concerns dictate that in order for workers to safely conduct operations on the tank, ventilation discharge must be at an elevated level. Evaluations for a safe stack height due to high mercury levels have been previously conducted for the purge ventilation on Tank 12. This temporary modification will provide a temporary blower stack with the option to route the portable ventilation discharge to a height equal to the purge ventilation discharge (approximately 35 feet off of tank top).
