The Department of Energy (DOE) has granted federal funding to the Idaho Office of Energy Resources (OER) under the DOE's State Energy Program (SEP), which was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. OER is proposing to pass SEP funds to various cities and counties in the state of Idaho for feasibility studies. These projects would be funded from the remaining funds in OER's Renewable Energy Enterprise Zones (REEZ) market title. OER has already funded numerous projects and feasibility studies under this market title. These studies would include: studying energy production from wood waste, municipal solid waste (MSW), and other biofuels/biomass production opportunities; studying energy production from activated Sludge from sewage treatment plants; studying other renewable energy resources located in Idaho (wind, water, geothermal, and solar); and utilizing Amalgamated Sugar to turn waste streams into revenue using anaerobic digestion.
