Dr. John Williams, principal investigator of a fiscal year 2015 awarded proposal from South Carolina State University, leads a group in well purging. His research focuses on addressing natural attenuation of the volatile organic compound plume from CMP (chemicals, metals, pesticides) Pits Operable Unit at the Savannah River Site.
Applications are being accepted for a competitive research solicitation and student internships through EM’s Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – EM’s Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP) provides opportunities for students and faculty at minority serving institutions (MSIs) to participate in EM’s mission through research and training activities. Two opportunities are currently open:
MSIPP’s fiscal year 2016 research solicitation: Proposals are due March 14, 2016 for research projects that focus on EM-relevant topics, including soil and groundwater remediation, tank waste management, and deactivation and decommissioning. Partnerships between MSIs and DOE national laboratories are strongly encouraged.
MSIPP summer 2016 internships: Applications from full-time MSI undergraduates or graduate students are due Feb. 28, 2016. Internships will take place at selected national laboratories and last for about 10 weeks. Interns will complete projects relevant to EM’s mission and receive a stipend or salary.

MSIPP supports science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at MSIs, which include Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges and Universities.
