The Shiprock Disposal Site, a Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA) Title I disposal site, is licensed to DOE for custody and long-term care, and managed by the Office of Legacy Management. The site transferred to the Office of Legacy Management in 1996 and requires routine inspection and maintenance, records-related activities, and stakeholder support. DOE/EA-2195 Environmental Assessment for the Evaporation Pond at Shiprock, New Mexico, Disposal Site

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a final Environmental Assessment (EA) (DOE/EA- 2195) for the Evaporation Pond project in Shiprock, New Mexico. Based on the analyses in the final EA, DOE determined this project would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of human health and the environment within the context of the National Environmental Policy Act. Therefore, the preparation of an environmental impact statement is not required, and DOE issued a final Finding of No Significant Impact.
