Kate Whysner is the supervisor of Environmental Team 2, which includes Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and decontamination and decommissioning sites.
Whysner joined the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management (LM) in 2020, serving on Environmental Team 2 as a site manager and then as the program manager for the CERCLA/RCRA program. She also managed a program of projects executed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for LM. Prior to joining LM, she was a site lead for the LM Support Partner contractor, assigned to the Shiprock, New Mexico, Site.
Previously, Whysner worked as a project engineer and then a project manager on remediation and civil construction sites across the country, including former industrial and mining sites, coal ash pond closures, and municipal projects. Her work included technical construction oversight, field engineering, project controls, proposal and estimate development, and client communications.
Whysner graduated from the McGill University School of Environment in Montreal, Quebec, where she focused her undergraduate research on the environmental effects of open pit mining. She then attained her master’s degree in environmental science and engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. Whysner is a registered professional engineer in the state of Colorado.
