A free webinar called “Opportunities for Tribes to Work Together" will take place Wednesday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain Time. This webinar is part of the 2017 Expanding Tribal Energy Development Through Partnerships webinar series sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy and the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA).

There are many benefits associated with tribes collaborating in the power industry. Attendees will learn about generation-transmission cooperatives and joint action agencies as potential business models to jointly own, procure, and build new transmission and power generation projects. The webinar will also highlight other partnership opportunities that can support tribal energy development and self-determination on tribal lands.

The webinar will begin with introductions from Randy Manion of WAPA and Lizana Pierce of the Office of Indian Energy. Glenn Steiger, Navajo Tribal Utility Authority Consultant, will give an overview of the various options available to tribes, followed by a tribal case study from Lenny Gold, General Manager of Gila River Indian Community Utility Authority, on a partnership with the Southwest Public Power Agency.

The webinar will conclude with a presentation on Volkswagen’s $55 million settlement for tribal air emissions reduction from Andy Bessler, Project Director for the National Tribal Air Association through the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals. Learn more about this settlement on our Funding page.

There is no cost to attend the webinar, but advance registration is required. Register for the webinar.
