The U.S. Department of Energy’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy, Dr. Jennifer Wilcox, will take part in the 15^thAnnual International Virtual Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies (GHGT-15) led by the IEAGHG and hosted by Khalifa University on March 16, 2021.

With the Biden administration in place, the U.S. is in a race to focus on cross-cutting technologies, such as greenhouse gas mitigation technologies. CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is especially important if the nation is to meet its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

“The U.S. has long been a leader in CCS development, and the team I lead at the Department of Energy has been in the forefront of that accomplishment,” said Dr. Wilcox. “All of us here today know that the climate crisis is a global crisis, and that one nation cannot respond to it alone. It requires all of us to take the threat seriously, and to do what we need to achieve our collective goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. By collaborating with our global partners we can meet our common commitment.”

This virtual conference will discuss international research on CCS and focus on a variety of greenhouse gas control technologies among various stakeholders and partner countries. Conference presenters will evaluate the technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and discuss the implementation of potential mitigation options. Most importantly, this meeting will encourage international collaborative research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities.
