to

The U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Idaho have initiated a 30-day public comment period beginning Oct. 15 and ending Nov. 14 on the planned end state of the Submarine 5th Generation General Electric Prototype Facility (S5G) and its defueled reactor vessel at the Idaho National Laboratory site. The S5G was a nuclear propulsion prototype used for research and training at the Naval Reactors Facility. It operated from 1965 to 1995.

An informational public briefing will be held during the Idaho Cleanup Project Citizens Advisory Board meeting at 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2024.

Official comments on the recommended end state should be emailed to eeca_comments@icp.doe.gov by Nov. 14, 2024.

The Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) (DOE/ID-12081) evaluates alternatives for the end state of the prototype facility.
