ARLINGTON, Va. — This year’s National Cleanup Workshop showcased how the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management’s (EM) restoration and revitalization work is helping power and secure the future. The EM team was in attendance and spoke with government and community leaders at the forefront of that work in Washington, D.C., and at sites across the country.
Coverage from the event includes a look at the communities in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee where cleanup has paved the way for $650 billion in private investments at DOE’s American Energy Hubs. The EM team caught up with federal managers from Hanford in Washington state, Savannah River in South Carolina and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico to hear about the latest progress at those sites.
EM journalist Marissa Sarbak also sat down for an exclusive one-on-one with U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, Chairman of Energy & Water Appropriations, who provided insights from his leadership in Congress. Under Secretary for Science Darío Gil also shared how the Genesis Mission is helping accelerate productivity that will benefit the nation.
