EM’s Rosa Elmetti joins fellow panelist to discuss the future of used fuel recycling and EM’s plans to leverage legacy materials to support the American nuclear energy renaissance.

ARLINGTON, Va. – During the 24th Combined Intergovernmental Meeting, the Office of Environmental Management (EM) presented its vision for the recycling and conditioning of used nuclear fuel to representatives from states, tribes, local governments, and other stakeholder organizations. The presentation highlighted how EM’s next generation recycling and conditioning capability will unlock the full value of materials already within EM’s inventory, strengthening domestic supply chains, supporting America’s growing nuclear energy demands, and addressing legacy material responsibilities.

Sharing EM’s vision with communities and stakeholders fosters a common understanding of the opportunities associated with optimizing the use of existing nuclear materials and the role recycling and conditioning plays in the nation’s nuclear energy landscape.

As the United States advances the nuclear renaissance, informed dialogue provides stakeholders an opportunity to understand how existing resources are supporting the U.S. energy future.
