MISSION

The Office of Executive Protection has responsibility for the protection of the Secretary of Energy and other executive personnel, as designated by the Secretary, of tactics, techniques, and procedures designed to prevent physical assault, harm or embarrassment.

FUNCTIONS

  • Manages the development and execution of protective operations in support of the Secretary of Energy and other DOE Officials, when designated by the Secretary.
  • Supports Continuity of Government, as events relate to the Secretary.
  • Initiates inquiries and investigates potential violations of enforceable safeguards and security requirements, as well as security concerns, as directed.
  • Provides support to the Metropolitan Washington, DC, Joint Terrorism Task Force and other joint operations when feasible.
  • Maintains active liaison in assigned areas of responsibility with other Federal law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Secret Service, Diplomatic Security Service, U.S. Marshals, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Department of Homeland Security, along with state and local police departments and agencies.
  • Maintains a robust protective intelligence program to assist with protective operations planning and to mitigate identified potential risks associated with security of the Secretary and other executive personnel under the protection umbrella.
  • Develops and maintains threat assessments, vulnerability assessments, security risk assessments, and statements of protection for the Secretary and Deputy Secretary.
  • Ensure agents are appropriately resourced and trained in accordance with approved standard operating procedures.
