WPTO Webinar to Discuss Water Power Topics in Upcoming Small Business Funding Program

On Dec. 1, 2022, WPTO will host a webinar to explore the water power topics in Phase One of the Fiscal Year 2023 Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Program. Speakers will discuss these topics and answer questions.

On Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) will host a webinar to explore the water power topics in Phase One of the Fiscal Year 2023 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. These topics aim to advance the development and commercialization of new ideas and research from small businesses that can drive innovation in water power technologies.

The topics, announced on Nov. 7, 2022, include:

  • Innovations in Water Data
  • Advanced Coatings and Geomembrane Liners
  • Identification of Cybersecurity Threats and Research and Development of Mitigation Strategies for Hydropower and Dams’ Operations
  • Co-Development of Marine Energy Technologies
  • Marine Energy Supply Chain Development

Speakers will discuss these topics and answer questions. Questions should be submitted before the webinar to Water.SBIR@ee.doe.gov

  • Topics released: Monday, Nov. 7, 2022
  • WPTO webinar on water power topics: Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, 2 p.m. ET
  • Funding opportunity announcement released: Monday, Dec. 12, 2022
  • Letters of intent due: Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, 5 p.m. ET
  • Full applications due: Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, 11:59 p.m. ET
  • Award notification: Monday, May 15, 2023 (subject to change)
  • Projected grant start date: Monday, June 26, 2023 (subject to change)

Additional support for first-time applicants is available through the DOE Phase 0 Program. WPTO also works with the American-Made Network’s Power Connectors, which provide mentorship and guidance to all SBIR applicants. More details are available on the Clean Energy Business Network's website
