EDF Project: Alliant

PROJECT STATEMENT

Alliant Energy will add generation capacity through investment in new natural gas-fired power plants and battery energy storage systems across Iowa and Wisconsin.

PROJECT SUMMARY

In October 2026, EDF closed on a loan package to Alliant Energy for financing totaling $5.1 billion to support two wholly owned subsidiaries—Interstate Power & Light Company (IPL) in Iowa and Wisconsin Power & Light Company in Wisconsin. These loans will support a major build out of capacity across Iowa and Wisconsin through investment in new generation included, but not limited to, new natural gas-fired power plants, liquified natural gas storage, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This funding represents another step in delivering President Trump’s agenda to promote affordable, reliable, and secure energy for all Americans, tying directly to his executive order Strengthening the Reliability and Security of the United States Electric Grid.

ENERGY IMPACT

The two loans from EDF will support more than 2,600 MW of new or upgraded firm, reliable power for the electric grid, including approximately 1,500 MW of new natural gas generation and 240 MW of increased capacity at existing generating units. The loans will also support approximately 1,000 MW of battery energy storage systems and 2 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas storage, further strengthening grid reliability and energy security.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

The financing from this loan package is estimated to lower energy costs for families and businesses across the service areas by $1.2 billion over the life of the loans. Subject to project advancement, qualification and financing terms, the loans could reduce Alliant Energy’s interest expense by more than $46 million per year, helping deliver lower electricity costs for customers.
