EDF Portfolio Project Page: AEP
PROJECT STATEMENT
AEP will reconductor or rebuild almost 5,000 miles of transmission lines across multiple states, increasing grid capacity and reliability.
PROJECT SUMMARY
In October 2025, EDF closed an over $1.6 billion loan to a subsidiary of American Electric Power (AEP) to help finance a portfolio of investments to reconductor and rebuild almost 5,000 miles of transmission lines across Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. This project will increase transmission capacity and improve grid resilience and reliability in the United States, supporting Secretary Wright's mission to unleash American energy dominance.
TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION
This project will enable increased grid reliability and transmission capacity in areas expecting significant load growth through the end of the decade driven by data center development and industrial demand, while also supporting baseload generation in AEP’s service territory.
ECONOMIC IMPACT
AEP’s loan is expected to reduce upward pressure on electricity rates for ratepayers due to the reduced cost of debt associated with EDF financing. AEP’s projects will also result in more affordable energy for Americans and will create around 1,100 American construction jobs.
