On December 5, 1997, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (EA 97-12) to Westinghouse Savannah River Company for violations of 10 C.F.R. 835 related to an unplanned intake of radioactive material that resulted in a worker receiving an occupational whole body radiation dose in excess of the regulatory limit at DOE's Savannah River Site.
