On September 21, 1998, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (EA 98-07) to Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, Inc. for violations of 10 C.F.R. 835 associated with deficiencies in the administration of the MK-Ferguson of Oak Ridge Company bioassay program that resulted in multiple failures to identify significant intakes of radioactive material by two workers over a period of nearly two years at DOE's Oak Ridge facilities.
