About the Peer Review Meeting
The Peer Review Meeting (PRM) includes a rigorous and systematic review of active projects in AFFO's research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) portfolio. These reviews are conducted by technical experts from industry, academia, the DOE National Laboratories, and other federal agencies. The PRM also provides an opportunity for this unique gathering of technical experts to exchange ideas on cutting-edge bioenergy and hydrogen technologies.
The feedback received from independent reviewers will allow AFFO to refine its research portfolio, identify shortcomings, respond to critical feedback, and guide future investment decisions to deliver maximum impact and advance key priorities in the production and use of domestic feedstocks, fuels, and chemicals.
The peer review process is an essential part of the Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation's (CMEI's) good governance approach aligning with President Trump's Executive Order 14303, which mandates that federal scientific activities be "subject to unbiased peer review" to maintain the highest standards of rigor and integrity.
Previous Review Meetings
The 2027 AFFO Peer Review Meeting will be the first one held since the former Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies and Bioenergy Technologies offices merged into AFFO. Historically these offices each convened review meetings to obtain independent feedback from technical experts on their office's RD&D project portfolios.
