Nicole Sanchez serves as Chief of Staff to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). She is also the Department of Energy (DOE) Chief Privacy Officer. She has 20+ years of federal experience, including 16 years specializing in privacy and information governance.
Nicole serves as a principal advisor to the CIO, overseeing daily operations of the CIO Office and ensuring alignment of efforts across enterprise IT operations, cybersecurity, privacy, and records management.
Nicole excels at advising senior leadership on complex issues with national and international implications, managing privacy programs, and fostering collaboration among a wide variety of stakeholders to solve critical challenges facing federal agencies.
Prior to DOE, Nicole held various leadership positions at the Department of Homeland Security, including Deputy Privacy Officer at the Science and Technology Directorate. She advised on privacy implications and mitigations for Artificial Intelligence applications and complex information sharing activities with the Intelligence Community and international partners.
Nicole holds a Master of Arts in U.S. Foreign Policy from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Memphis. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).
