On December 23, 2025, Department of Energy (DOE) issued emergency order 202-25-12, pursuant to section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act, to Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO). The order directs NIPSCO and MISO to take all measures necessary to ensure that Units 17 and 18 at the Schahfer Generating Station in Wheatfield, Ind. are available to operate. This order is in effect beginning on December 23, 2025, and continues until March 23, 2026.
