On January 26, 2026, the Department of Energy (DOE) issued an emergency Order No. 202-26-06, pursuant to section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act, to PJM Interconnection, L.L.C. (PJM). The order was issued subsequent to PJM’s application. The order authorizes PJM to direct backup generation resources at data centers and other large load customers to operate as a last resort before declaring an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 3 or during an EEA 3. This order is in effect immediately and shall expire at 11:59 p.m. EST on January 31, 2026.
