Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) is celebrating a successful first year of bolstering regional energy innovation ecosystems across the United States.
In the 2022 EPIC Report to Congress, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Technology (OTT) showcases its strategic two-part process to provide funds and support to place-based incubators: a brand new $1 million American-Made prize and $9.5 million funding opportunity announcement. These programs help catalyze local collaboration and grow energy tech start-ups.
OTT recognizes that technology start-ups, particularly in energy-related sectors and especially those in hardware, often require a variety of services beyond capital access, including mentorship, technology validation, business development, and connections to manufacturers. With the help of targeted business assistance, entrepreneurs are better prepared to turn their innovations into successful new ventures.
Through EPIC, OTT underscores the importance of innovation clusters. Continued work through EPIC will support OTT's overall mission to spur the commercialization of impactful energy technologies and expand the public benefit of DOE's research, development, demonstration, and deployment portfolio.
Read more about the impact that EPIC-funded projects will bring to their respective innovation ecosystems and stay tuned for more funding opportunities through EPIC.
