The Weldon Spring site, located about 30 miles west of St. Louis, was remediated by DOE under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and has been transformed into a publicly accessible area for recreation and education. In May 2013, the site sustained damages from a tornado that passed through the area. The proposed storm shelter would provide safe shelter for employees and visitors during future severe weather events.
