A boiler of the efficiency you specified will save in lifetime avoided energy costs compared to your existing boiler. You could save more by buying at the required FEMP efficiency level. The minimum thermal efficiency for Federal purchases is %. Federal buyers are required to buy at the minimum thermal efficiency level unless they have a cost-effectiveness or functional exception. You've entered an efficiency level below the FEMP required level and you're losing each year. Can you justify a waiver?

This energy savings calculator only provides information about the relative difference between two equivalent products, all other factors being equal. Other assumptions include:
- Base model - Values represent a 1,000,000 Btu/hour gas-fired, hot-water boiler operated for 1,500 full-load hours per year with a thermal efficiency of 80%. The performance of this standard unit is based on ASHRAE 90.1-2007.
- Thermal efficiency (Et) - Represents a boiler's energy output divided by energy input as defined by ANSI Z21.13. A boiler's thermal efficiency rating should be used to determine compliance with Federal procurement requirements.
- Default values - The values pre-loaded into the calculator represent average operating conditions in the Federal sector.
- U.S. Federal average gas price - $/therm
- U.S. Federal average fuel oil price - $/gallon
- Price trends and discount rate - Future electricity price trends and a discount rate of 3.2% are based on Federal guidelines.
- Lifetime energy costs - Values represent the sum of the discounted value of annual energy costs, based on an assumed boiler life of 25 years.
- Condensing boiler annual energy use - Adjusted for an assumed boiler operation of 50% condensing mode versus 50% noncondensing mode.
*1 MBtu equals 1,000 Btu
1 therm natural gas equals 100,000 Btu
1 gallon No. 2 fuel oil equals 140,000 Btu
** Value entered should be equivalent full load hours (e.g. 3,000 hours at 50% load equals 1,500 full load hours)
