On March 31, 2009, this office commissioned a study to examine career opportunities and retirement options for the Department of Energy (DOE) protective force members. The study was supported by senior leaders of the Department as well as by the leadership of the National Council of Security Police (NCSP), who took an active role in the study.
The results of the study were briefed to several senior Departmental officials on June 30, 2009. These leaders accepted the overall thrust of the Study Group's report and took the 29 specific recommendations under advisement for further action. To ensure that the positive momentum represented by the study is not lost, they accepted for immediate action the recommendation that the life of the study group be formally extended through its reconstitution as a standing committee. The establishment of such a standing committee is also fully supported by the NCSP.
