On September 19, 1997, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (EA 97-08) to Bechtel Hanford, Inc. for violations of 10 C.F.R. 835 associated with two incidents that resulted in unplanned uptakes of radioactive material by five workers at the 224-B facility and 105-C reactor building at DOE's Hanford site.
