The Global Electronics Council awarded the Office of Legacy Management (LM) with the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Purchaser Award for the 12th consecutive time. LM Information Technology Specialist Kyle Brown accepted the award on LM’s behalf.

The EPEAT award recognizes organizations for excellence in sustainable procurement of electronic equipment. EPEAT is a method for purchasers to evaluate a product’s effect on the environment, rate it accordingly, and identify it as a preferable electronic good.

Manufacturers register products in the EPEAT category based on the device’s ability to meet certain criteria, including product lifestyle, design, energy production, and recycling.

EPEAT award nominees qualify under six product categories:

  • Computers and displays
  • Imaging equipment
  • Mobile phones
  • Photovoltaic (solar power) modules and inverters
  • Televisions
  • Servers

LM received the award for making purchases in the computers and displays, imaging equipment, and televisions categories.

Brown said, “We are proud to be involved in advancing the sustainable procurement of environmentally friendly technologies. LM continues to improve our sustainability program to help further our mission. LM extends special thanks and appreciation to the Contracts Team for their diligent work in tracking and managing EPEAT numbers, which made this achievement possible.””

LM aligns its electronic equipment purchasing with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 23 requirements for sustainable acquisition, ensuring procurements meet federal standards and EPA-recommended ecolabels, including EPEAT.

“As a winner for the 12th year in a row, the Office of Legacy Management continues to further promote positive environmental impacts through our work,” Brown said.
