September 25, 2026Funding will support the project team's research and development of perovskite (PVK)/silicon (Si) tandem solar modules. Specifically, the project team will (1) develop, test, and validate PVK coating to meet physical and functional performance metrics, (2) test and validate solar module development process, (3) finalize prototype design and manufacturing process, (4) produce prototype PVK/Si tandem solar modules for field testing, (5) conduct field testing, collect performance data, (6) apply test results and produce scaled outputs of prototype solar modules, (7) test and validate solar modules to meet durability, stability, and production metrics, (8) conduct second field testing, collect performance data, (9) validate field test results to meet performance criteria. If successful, this project will result in U.S. manufactured, mechanically stacked PVK/Si tandem solar modules that will reduce both the installation cost and levelized cost of energy by up to 20 percent, ultimately reducing dependence on foreign energy imports, and thereby strengthening U.S. manufacturing and energy supply.
