Kaveh Farzad was nominated by President Trump to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Energy for International Affairs on March 2, 2026, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 7, 2026. In this role, Kaveh leads the Department of Energy’s international portfolio and advances President Trump’s vision of American energy dominance as a force for global prosperity and stability. He works with America’s allies and partners to expand markets for American energy and technology, strengthen energy security, counter malign foreign influence, and promote access to affordable, reliable, and secure energy around the world.
Prior to this role, Kaveh was a Managing Director at FGS Global, where he advised global companies and institutions on geopolitical and policy risk, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications across energy, economics, and corporate strategy.
Kaveh previously served in DOE’s Office of International Affairs, where he led U.S. energy engagement with the Arabian Peninsula and West Africa. Earlier, he entered federal service as a Presidential Management Fellow and public affairs specialist in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources. During President Trump’s first administration, he served as a political appointee, diplomat, and senior advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See in Rome. Before entering government, Kaveh led communications at the Pacific Council on International Policy in Los Angeles.
Kaveh holds a master’s degree in political theory from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a bachelor’s degree from the University of La Verne. A native of Southern California’s Inland Empire and the son of Iranian immigrants, he currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife, Michaeline, and their three young sons, Oliver, Henry, and Charlie.
