Excavate and Use Additional Disposal Panels at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Facility; Eddy County, New Mexico
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) prepared a supplement analysis (SA) for the Proposed Action to Excavate
and Use Additional Disposal Panels at the WIPP Facility (DOE/EIS-0026-SA-13). The SA considers new circumstances and information relevant to environmental concerns in order for DOE to determine whether the existing 1997 supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Disposal Phase (DOE/EIS-0026-S2) should be supplemented, a new environmental impact statement (EIS) should be prepared, or no further NEPA analysis is required.
The SA evaluates the potential impacts of excavating and using additional transuranic (TRU) waste disposal panels to continue to dispose of defense TRU waste up to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Land Withdrawal Area (LWA) total TRU waste volume capacity limit in accordance with DOE's 1998 Record of Decision (ROD).
