June 12, 2026The Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office gives notice of receipt of an Application filed June 11, 2026, by Rio Grande LNG Train 6, LLC (RGLNG Train 6), seeking long-term multi-contract authorization to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) up to the equivalent of 312.05 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year to Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries, and to Non-Free Trade Agreement (NFTA) countries. RGLNG Train 6 proposes to export LNG from its proposed Rio Grande LNG Expansion Project, adjacent to the Rio Grande LNG Terminal, located along the Brownsville Ship Channel in Cameron County, Texas, to any country that has, or in the future will have, the capacity to import LNG via ocean-going carrier, with which the United States has, or in the future enters into, an FTA requiring national treatment for trade in natural gas, and/or NFTA countries, with which trade is not prohibited by U.S. law or policies. Authorization is requested for a term extending through the later of December 31, 2050, or 20 years, commencing on the date of first commercial export, for both the FTA and NFTA authorizations. RGLNG Train 6 requests this authorization on its behalf and as agent for other parties who hold title to the LNG at the time of export. A Federal Register Notice will be issued for the NFTA portion of this application.
