Summary
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is preparing an environmental assessment (EA) for the Mexichem Fluor, Inc. - Lithium Hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) Manufacturing Unit Project (DOE/EA-2236). The EA evaluates the potential environmental impacts of DOE’s proposed action to provide financial assistance to Mexichem Fluor, Inc. (Mexichem) for its proposed LiPF6 manufacturing unit adjacent to Mexichem’s existing facility in St. Gabriel, Iberville Parish, Louisiana.
The proposed LiPF6 plant would utilize existing infrastructure at the Mexichem facility to the extent that is possible. This would be accomplished by modification of the existing facility to support LiPF6 production that would include increased boiler use and rail loading. Additionally, a new cooling tower and wastewater treatment unit would be constructed to support LiPF6 production. The LiPF6 plant expansion would include two new detention ponds, the LiPF6 unit, warehouses, an administrative building, and parking.
For more information, see Mexichem Fluor, Inc. - Lithium Hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) Manufacturing Unit Project.
