Level: Intermediate
Electricity demand is growing rapidly across many regions of the country, influencing electricity markets and affecting utility bills for federal customers. These trends can significantly impact federal facility operating budgets and add greater uncertainty around energy procurement planning.
This session brings together experts from the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), General Services Administration (GSA), and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Energy for a presentation and panel discussion on national and regional electricity cost trends.
Participants will gain insights into the factors shaping electricity prices and explore practical steps facilities can take to manage expenses through improved procurement, tariff analysis, and demand management strategies
Learning Objectives
- Describe current national and regional electricity cost trends and explain how conditions in retail choice and vertically integrated markets affect federal facility utility bills.
- Identify factors driving electricity costs and pricing changes such as infrastructure investments, data center expansion, capacity constraints, and fuel costs.
- Identify and apply practical strategies for managing and reducing federal facility electricity expenses through improved procurement approaches, tariff analysis, and demand management best practices.
