March 17, 2026Funding will support the project team's small-scale research and development of a stimulated geologic ammonia technology to enable ammonia as a primary energy resource by leveraging oil and gas techniques to react ferrous iron resources with engineered fluids to produce ammonia. Specifically, the project team will (1) screen rock samples for appropriate mineral content, (2) conduct reactions to produce ammonia to meet production metrics, (3) optimize production process and continue testing lab-scale system improvements, (4) construct pilot field-scale production system, test and validate system production and operation, (5) identify suitable candidate field site for future in-situ field testing, (6) develop scale model of full in-situ system for next-stage development.
