During this webinar on March 5, participants learned about DOE’s work convening stakeholders to confront distribution transformer supply chain vulnerabilities.

Distribution transformers are the building blocks of the electric grid, yet they are facing face supply chain constraints resulting in long lead times and component shortages. The Distribution Transformer Working Group works on identifying key opportunities to reduce distribution transformer production times. In 2025, the group created three key resources that facilitate communication between stakeholders, highlight component family interchangeability for manufacturers, and enable reduction in transformer stock keeping units (SKU) for utilities.

In this webinar, the engineers, manufacturers, distributors, and experts behind this effort presented how the industry is collaborating to confront distribution transformer supply chain challenges head-on.
