The Fermilab Technology Development Project aims to design, build, and operate an electron accelerator that meets the requirements specified by the Formally Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) program. Based on initial investigation, 10 Megaelectronvolt (MeV) electron energy appears to be an appropriate compromise between penetration depth, equipment size, and shielding requirements. Therefore, the project aims to build a 10 MeV, electron beam accelerator for FUSRAP based on superconducting radio-frequency technology.
