Non-rad metal-organic framework (MOF) surrogates will be prepared to simulate and increase understanding of actinide-containing MOFs (to be produced in a separate project). Surrogate MOFs will be prepared using solvothermal techniques (heating in the presence of organic solvents, e.g., N,N-dimethylformamide) which will result in crystal formation upon cooling to room temperatures. All chemical work (i.e., mixing, pipetting, filtering) will be performed in a chemical fume hood.
