October 17, 2025The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to administer Congressionally Directed Spending to the Ava Community Energy Authority to install a photovoltaic solar array and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) microgrid ("solar + storage") at the Age Well Center South Fremont ("Age Well Center"; Fremont, CA).
Award activities would include site development, material procurement, and developing and constructing a solar + storage microgrid at the Age Well Center. The solar array would be approximately 25.08 kW and would be installed in three sections on the roof of the Age Well Center, associated racking and wiring would also be installed on the roof of the building. The dimensions of the three rooftop solar sections would be 17 feet 3 inches by 39 feet 7 inches, 30 feet 8 inches by 11 feet 4 inches, and 21 feet 9 inches by 16 feet 11 inches. The BESS would be approximately 81 kWh and would be placed in an existing parking lot adjacent to the Age Well Center; it would take up the size of approximately one parking space. The installed solar + storage would tie-in to an existing electrical closet.
