Adam Davis

Adam Davis is the Acting Director of the Office of Classification, concurrently serving as the Director of the Office of Technical Guidance, within the Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS). He is responsible for the development and implementation of Departmental policy to protect the Nation’s most sensitive national security information, including Restricted Data. He is also Federal program manager for the Department's AI-enabled classification modernization initiatives. 

Dr. Davis began his career at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) first as a graduate research associate and later a postdoctoral researcher, before becoming a permanent Technical Staff Member. While at LANL, he held technical roles supporting the Nuclear Weapons design and production agencies as a member of the Integrated Nuclear Planning team as well as the Isotope Production Program at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE).

In 2018, he transitioned his focus to national policy, joining the Office of Classification first as a contractor and subsequently becoming a federal employee in 2019. He was selected as Director of the Office of Technical Guidance in 2022 and has been Acting Director of the Office of Classification since September 2025.

Dr. Davis holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of New Mexico, a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He lives in Maryland with his wife and three daughters.
