August 1, 2025Funding will support the project team's small-scale research and development of a low-pressure and lower temperature, and fully electric, green ammonia (NH3) production photoreactor technology to advance dispatchable, energy and fuel infrastructures. Specifically, the project team will (1) develop, test, and validate photoreactor and photocatalyst system prototypes, (2) develop a full scale production system based on prototype outcomes, and (3) test and validate the full system to meet final concept standards. If successful, this project will result in energy efficient, sustainable, and cost effective NH3 production, applicable to a diverse range of markets and end-users in the energy and fuel production, agriculture, and chemical manufacturing sectors, thereby increasing U.S. energy security.
