Three Years of Impact: OCED by the Numbers
Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations
December 23, 2024The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) was established by Congress in 2021 to manage a $25+ billion portfolio of cutting-edge demonstration projects across America that include advanced nuclear, clean hydrogen, carbon management, industrial decarbonization, long-duration energy storage technologies, and demonstration projects in rural or remote areas, and on current and former mine land. As we celebrate the three-year anniversary of OCED, we reflect on the accomplishments we’ve made towards our mission to accelerate the deployment of these clean energy technologies in partnership with the private sector and others as we work to build a strong U.S. energy economy that reduces emissions, creates quality jobs, and provides economic opportunities in communities across the nation.
Highlights of OCED’s progress to date:
- Catalyzing Investments: Selected 113 projects across 42 states that will catalyze billions of dollars of private investment—cultivating emerging markets, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, cutting carbon emissions, and delivering reliable, affordable, and resilient energy to communities across the nation. In 2024 alone, OCED awarded 90+ projects.
- Fostering Collaboration: Partnered with industry leaders, community members, and technical experts to build strong, collaborative relationships that are moving clean energy projects forward that will provide benefits for a geographically, economically, and culturally diverse group of communities and businesses across America.
- Building Expertise: Established a team of leading experts committed to addressing the technical, economic, and systemic challenges of emerging clean energy technologies by buying down risk to show how these technologies can be replicated and commercialized to catalyze private sector investments.
We are deeply grateful for the partnerships, meaningful engagement, and unwavering support that make OCED’s work possible.
