Summary
National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) prepared an environmental assessment (EA) for the Solvay Battery-Grade Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) Manufacturing Facility project in Richmond County, Georgia (DOE/EA-2237). The EA evaluates the potential environmental consequences of DOE providing financial assistance to Solvay Specialty Polymers USA, LLC (a member of the Syensqo Group). The project involves the construction of a chemical manufacturing facility for the production of PVDF (a highly non-reactive thermoplastic) for use in electric vehicle batteries. The facility would support the production of more than 5 million EV batteries per year at maximum capacity.
