Twenty Years of Legacy Management

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management turned 20 on Dec. 15, 2023. LM commemorated the occasion with a campaign that celebrates the office’s history.

    Eric Boyle, DOE Historian, discusses the foundation and early history of the Office of Legacy Management. Beginning with the Manhattan Project, Boyle examines the Atomic Energy Commission and subsequent Department of Energy and the growth that led to the creation of the Office of Legacy Management.

On Dec. 6, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management celebrated its 20-year anniversary with a celebration event at DOE Headquarters in Washington, D.C. As part of the event, LM Director Carmelo Melendez thanked former and current LM and contractor employees for their contributions over the years. The event was attended by various LM partners and staff and was broadcast virtually to sites across the LM complex.
