On October 19, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published the electric motors test procedure final rule at 87 FR 63588. The October 2022 Final Rule added several categories of electric motors subject to DOE test procedures and representation requirements. On September 27, 2023, DOE issued an enforcement policy that delayed enforcement activities for manufacturers making voluntary representations for several motor categories, including inverter-only electric motors, synchronous electric motors, and expanded-scope electric motors, including air-over expanded scope electric motors, until October 14, 2026. In an exercise of its enforcement discretion, DOE announces an extension of its delayed enforcement policy for manufacturers making voluntary representations of the categories of electric motors listed above by an additional 3 years (October 14, 2029).
