Stanley (Stan) Pyram

Stan Pyram DOE-SR Chief Engineer

Mr. Stanley “Stan” Pyram currently serves as the Acting Manager of the Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA). Mr. Pyram has more than 20 years of experience providing leadership and direction to federal and contractor staff responsible for the design, construction, oversight, and operation of facilities within the Department of the Army, DOE Office of Environmental Management, and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). 

As the Acting Manager, his primary responsibility is to oversee the safe, efficient cleanup of legacy waste from the Manhattan Project and Cold War-era operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This includes the shipment of transuranic waste to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad, New Mexico, as well as soil and groundwater remediation programs. 

Mr. Pyram began his civilian career in the private sector, working for Kiewit Corporation as a mechanical engineer. He later worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Savannah and Charleston districts in South Carolina as a mechanical engineer. He was part of the federal construction team that oversaw construction of the Salt Waste Processing Facility. This $2.3 billion facility plays a critical role in nuclear waste processing and disposal at the Savannah River Site (SRS). 

He later joined NNSA’s Savannah River Field Office as a technical program manager and later worked for U.S. Department of Energy Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR) AMIES as a facility representative. He also served as the Federal Project Director for the surplus plutonium disposition, a $1 billion-plus project. Mr. Pyram eventually served as the site chief engineer for DOE-SR, where he was the principal technical advisor to senior management on all site issues related to engineering, operations, and industry codes and standards applicable to the design and operation of SRS nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. 

Mr. Pyram is also a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve, where he has served in multiple leadership positions, including battalion commander of the 391 Engineer Battalion and staff officer at the Pentagon. He currently serves on the Contingency Command Post of the 412 Theater Engineer Command. 

Mr. Pyram earned a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, a Master of Business Administration  from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor's of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University. He is a registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) in the State of South of Carolina, a Certified Project management professional, and a LEED Accredited Professional. He is also qualified as a DOE Federal Project Director and Contracting Officer Technical Representative (Level III).
