Applications are open for the 2022 cohorts in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program. Innovators selected for this program will tap into an extensive network of mentors and research capabilities at U.S. National Laboratories to develop the next-generation technologies that will help pave the way to a clean energy future.
The Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program helps today’s brightest clean tech entrepreneurs move their innovations out of the lab and into the market. To provide participants with the support they need to deploy their solutions at scale and launch successful energy and manufacturing businesses, the Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program offers:
- Two-year paid fellowships: Each fellowship includes a personal living stipend, health insurance stipend, and travel allowance.
- National laboratory access and research funding: In addition to unparalleled access to facilities, equipment, and expertise at a National Laboratory, participants receive research and development funding.
- Business mentors, entrepreneurial training, and networking: Fellows will have access to experienced business mentorship, entrepreneurial training programs, and exclusive networking opportunities. Innovators are also exposed to a wide range of leaders from academia, industry, government, and finance that can serve as advisors and partners.
DOE seeks innovators who are developing technologies that support an equitable transition to a clean, decarbonized economy and advance the missions of the following offices: Advanced Manufacturing & Materials Technologies Office, Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office, Solar Energy Technologies Office, Building Technologies Office, and the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management. - Chain Reaction Innovations (Argonne National Laboratory; Lemont, IL): Applications due November 30. Informational webinars through November 28.
- Innovation Crossroads (Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Oak Ridge, TN): Applications due November 30. Informational webinars through November 18.
- West Gate (National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Golden, CO): Applications due February 14. Informational webinars through December 7.
The Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program is primarily funded through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. To date, Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program entrepreneurs have collectively attracted nearly $1 billion in follow-on funding for their startups and created 1,000 jobs. Past Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program innovators have developed breakthrough technologies spanning American industries – from new materials to create higher efficiency solar panels to a biomanufacturing process to make fungi-based meat alternatives.
