When the 2022-2026 Multi-Year Program Plan was published, the Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) operated with the former Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. As of early 2026, the office has been renamed the Office of Geothermal and now operates within the Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO).
Program evaluation is a core GTO function. Regular evaluation activities help ensure progress toward research objectives, alignment with DOE and EERE goals, and effective public funds. Program evaluation activities also support GTO budget planning and decision making and provide independent analysis and external review recommendations as needed. GTO’s primary evaluation activities are described in this section.
