Approximately 3 g of plutonium trichloride will be synthesized by reflux heating plutonium(III) oxalate (already available in the Savannah River National Laboratory inventory) in a molar excess of hexachloropropene (C3Cl6) solvent between 180 - 190 C for 18 hours.
