RAPID Manufacturing Institute Announces Two Project Calls to Open in Late March
The Rapid Manufacturing Institute will issue two calls for project proposals in late March. This call will be more unique as it focuses on Education and Workforce Development and will provide a face-to-face training course that is hands-on, project-based, inquiry-based or lab-based, is 2-5 days in duration, and is targeted to graduate students and professional engineers. These will be open to current RAPID members in good standing, who will lead the projects. All proposals whether technical or educational should advance the technical knowledge in one or more of RAPID’s focus areas: Modeling and Simulation, Module Manufacturing, Intensified Process Fundamentals, Renewable Bioproducts, Chemicals and Commodities Processing, and Natural Gas Upgrading. Both project calls will close in May.
Visit the RAPID website and membership areas for more information.
AMO’s Composite Institute to Co-host 2018 Closed Mold Alliance Workshops
The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) and Composites One, leading the Closed Mold Alliance, are co-hosting four new composites training workshops in 2018. Each workshop is unique from the content covered in previous years and is designed to train composites technicians and workers on techniques utilized in the industry. The 2018 workshops continue to offer a collaboration of composites experts and researchers working with composites industry workers to advance the integration of composites into IACMI’s technology areas.
- Road2Composites: Scaling up for Innovation | April 17 - 18 | Detroit, MI
- Advanced Composites Use in Wind Energy Technology | June 5 - 6 | Denver, CO
- Pultrusion-Focused Workshop | Aug. 21 - 22 | Knoxville, TN
- Composites Training Workshop | Nov. 14 - 15 | Dayton, OH

DOE Features Women in the Manhattan Project During Women’s History Month
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) featured the essential contributions women have made to the success of the agency’s mission, dating back to the 1940s and the Manhattan Project – the top-secret mission to develop the world’s first nuclear weapon that helped win World War II.
Earlier this month, DOE released a photo album, a timeline, and blogs and illustrations that highlight the accomplishments of five women who helped on the project.
