Update 8/1/11 An asbestos inspection was performed on Friday 7/29/11. It was determined that no asbestos was present. This inspection is documented in SRNS-N2000-2011-00128-ASB, Asbestos Inspection, Installation Of F-Canyon Truck Well A/C Ductwork, 7/29/2011, Knoderer, Mark. The F-Area 221-F Canyon Truckwell has been modified to incorporate three separate air locks, one additional egress air lock and an area within the Warm Canyon known as the Waste Handling Area (WHA)? Personnel are expected to man the facility and may be dressed in multiple layers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The air being supplied to the truckwell is drawn in through the louvers through the Canyon Exhaust Fans, which ensures that the facility is negatively pressured ensuring that no contaminants can be released from the facility. The air is being drawn in at an ambient temperature and during hot days the hot climate within the Truckwell combined with the PPE can result in heat stress related injuries to personnel working within the Truckwell. In order to eliminate this high heat stress condition for the workers, it is necessary to provide some form of cooling for the facility that will not positively pressure the facility itself and result in a potential release. The contract for the Chiller/Heating System with the 500 gallon skid mounted water tank will provide cooling/heating to the air be drawn into the Truckwell from outside of the facility. This will be accomplished by passing the drawn air through a custom designed cooling/heating coil which will reduce the ambient air temperature from 102 degrees to 55 degrees Fahrenheit if cooled or 32 degrees to 120 degrees if heated. The Chiller and the Electric Boiler System are self contained portable skid mounted HVAC systems which hooks up to a portable 500 Gallon Tank for its water supply. Both are closed loop systems, which will be housed externally and are built for exterior use. The 500 gallon tank is necessary as 221-F Canyon has been partially deactivated and no longer has water available to the facility.
