Analysis

The Office of Fossil Energy (FE) conducts systems, engineering, and economic analysis that is primarily focused on:

  • Cost and performance of fossil energy technologies
  • The role of fossil energy in energy markets
  • Energy markets assessments
  • Integration of fossil energy technologies with the U.S. power grid

To support these primary functions, FE activities include:

  • Technical and Economic Analysis: FE evaluates technical and economic considerations associated with power generation and industrial technologies and benefits of fossil energy technologies through the use of system studies and engineering assessments.
  • Markets Analysis: FE evaluates markets to aid in the advancement of fossil energy technologies, helping assess market potential. Tools such as the energy systems models, production cost models, and other advanced analysis techniques are utilized to better understand the role of fossil energy in the U.S. energy system.
  • Technical Engagement: FE coordinates with in the Federal, state, and private sectors to ensure that the best technical information is considered, which in turn allows for the appropriate representation of fossil energy technologies.
  • Economic and Jobs Analysis: FE undertakes analyses which address the economics associated with fossil energy technologies.

A variety of analysis methodologies are used in combination to provide a robust understanding of fossil energy technologies.
